Personal News 

So – my health has been terrible, in a non-life-threatening way, for much of the last month. It’s too long and technical a story for here, but the short version is I was on different blood pressure meds so I could do a particular diagnostic test, and those meds were considerably less effective and came with a host of very unpleasant side effects. (And in the end the test didn’t even give us the result we were looking for.)

I’m on new meds now, which are the best I’ve been on so far, and that’s nice, but I’ve had four weeks of reduced productivity, and for the last fortnight of that I really wasn’t able to do anything more than the absolute basics of running the site. My writing has fallen significantly behind – although luckily I had been running a buffer in case something exactly like this happened, so it hasn’t impacted in any visible way yet.

I’m hoping I’m going to be able to write more often now (early signs point to “probably yes”) and rebuild that buffer, and have the energy to do other development tasks for my site and my brand, because I really need to be finding new customers right now.

Which brings me to the economics: my sales right now are terrible. I’m at less than half the numbers I want to see for October so far, and that means they are lower than my safety baseline. If this continues, I will have to start looking for a day job again by January.

My best guess as to the cause is the US federal government shutdown. The vast majority of my customers come from the US, and if federal workers aren’t getting paid, they obviously don’t have money to spend on erotica, and they don’t have money to buy things from other people who might then use that money to buy erotica. The timing of the dip aligns very closely with the start of the shutdown.

Just generally, I need to be expanding my audience and finding more people who might want to read my writing but who haven’t encountered it yet. But the nature of the internet right now, with platform and financial discrimination, makes that a challenging and time-consuming and risky thing to do. It’s a challenge.

But let’s move on to content.
